The mansion, which has served as a premier attraction for architecture lovers and history-focused tourists, normally offers guided tours showcasing its elegant Victorian design and political heritage. Tours are expected to resume later in the year once construction wraps up and interior spaces are made safe for visitors again.

The Montana Historical Society, which oversees care of the mansion and operates educational programming at the site, says the temporary closure is part of ongoing commitments to preserve the state’s cultural resources. Essential updates are needed to protect the structure from long-term wear while ensuring it remains accessible for future generations.

Despite the construction, the Historical Society confirmed that they still plan to host their annual Halloween trick-or-treat event, which typically brings local families to the historic property for seasonal festivities.

Located in Helena’s historic district, the mansion first became home to Montana governors in the early 1900s and remains a cherished reminder of the state’s political beginnings. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and frequently draws school groups, historians, and architecture enthusiasts from across the region.

More information about the mansion’s history, current projects, and upcoming schedule can be found by visiting the Montana Historical Society’s website.
