Investment in modern educational facilities continues as school districts upgrade campuses to support evolving learning needs. PC Construction has started construction on a multi-phase expansion and renovation project at Union Memorial School in Colchester, Vermont, which will serve students from pre-kindergarten through second grade upon completion.
The project centers on a new two-story, 50,000-square-foot east wing with a full basement that will provide additional classroom space and updated educational facilities.
In addition, the existing west wing will undergo a 14,000-square-foot renovation, including interior upgrades, exterior improvements, and selective demolition to create a more functional layout for students and staff.
The project has been designed to improve the school's learning environment while supporting long-term operational needs.
Construction is being completed in phases to minimize disruptions to school activities.
Initial sitework includes removing an existing septic field, installing a new septic system and pump station, and relocating utilities that conflict with the building footprint. A temporary gas line is being installed to maintain uninterrupted service to the occupied school during construction.
Steel erection for the new academic wing is scheduled to begin in September following completion of the early sitework phase.
PC Construction previously partnered with the Colchester School District on the Porters Point School project, another facility serving pre-kindergarten through second-grade students.
School modernization projects continue to generate opportunities for education construction while requiring careful planning to maintain safe operations on occupied campuses. For construction owners, school districts, and contractors, phased delivery strategies help reduce disruptions and support efficient execution of complex renovation and expansion programs.
