Peachtree Corners and Curiosity Lab were honored with the 2024 Outside the Construction Box Award at the ITS Georgia annual awards banquet on November 13th at Cumberland Mall in Atlanta. The award recognizes innovative solutions to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) challenges.
Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners earned the award for its work in setting up Ghost Intersections on Peachtree Parkway (State Road 141). These intersections are designed to simulate real-world scenarios, using advanced monitoring, detection, data capture, and movement identification. This setup helps test how emerging ITS technologies perform in live environments, providing valuable insights into their future use.
The City of Peachtree Corners previously won this award in 2019 when it launched Curiosity Lab.
The Outside the “Construction” Box Award honors unique and creative solutions to ITS challenges that go beyond typical construction projects. The award recognizes innovative uses of ITS architecture, software, network engineering, and other technologies.
ITS Georgia is a state chapter of ITS America, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to advancing Intelligent Transportation Systems to improve surface transportation. ITS Georgia and ITS America work with a wide range of stakeholders, including transportation agencies, technology providers, and system users, to enhance transportation systems through innovation and research.
