A new 330,000-square-foot education campus in Texas is nearing its transition from construction to school operations, adding substantial capacity for upper-grade students and specialized career education. Satterfield & Pontikes Construction participated in a cornerstone ceremony marking the project's progress and honoring the educator whose name the school carries.
The two-story Amy Coleman Middle School will serve 2,222 students in ninth and 10th grades. The campus is organized around four career academies covering public service, agriculture and education, business and medicine.
The facility includes academy-focused learning spaces along with performing arts facilities, a library, gymnasiums and areas designed for group collaboration. The layout is intended to support both traditional instruction and hands-on educational programs.
The school is expected to open for students in fall 2026.
The cornerstone ceremony recognized Amy Coleman, who became Fort Bend ISD's first Black female principal and spent nearly 33 years in public education. Coleman served in several teaching and administrative roles before becoming the founding principal of Hunters Glen Elementary School in 1985.
Family members contributed keepsakes to be incorporated into the school's cornerstone, creating a permanent connection between the new campus and Coleman's legacy.
Satterfield & Pontikes worked on the project with Sheldon ISD, LAN and Huckabee. Representatives from the school district, design team and construction team participated in the ceremony and discussed the project's development.
The project adds more than 330,000 square feet of educational infrastructure while incorporating career-oriented spaces and shared facilities for a large student population. For construction owners and contractors, the campus also illustrates the scale and coordination involved in delivering modern public education facilities that combine academic, career-training and community functions.
