Construction of a new outpatient healthcare facility has been completed in Pleasanton, California, adding specialized medical services for residents across the Tri-Valley region. The renovation expands Sutter Health's outpatient care capacity while highlighting the growing use of digital construction technologies on healthcare projects.
Skanska completed the 21,000-square-foot tenant improvement project on the first floor of an existing building for Sutter Health. The renovated facility is scheduled to begin serving patients this month.
The medical center includes a pediatric urgent care clinic, a physical therapy department, and an imaging center equipped with MRI, CT, X-ray, mammography, bone density scanning, and ultrasound services. The expanded facility is intended to improve local access to specialty healthcare while reducing travel and wait times for patients in the Tri-Valley area.
The project was delivered using a design-build approach with DES serving as the project architect.
Project teams used several construction technologies to support project delivery and scheduling.
Skanska implemented Takt planning to coordinate work sequencing across multiple trades and maintain construction progress despite permitting challenges. The team also used Dusty Robotics to perform robotic layout work for multiple trades and piloted robotic progress tracking to improve field coordination, resource utilization, and material efficiency.
These digital workflows supported installation accuracy while helping maintain project schedules during construction.
