The growing emphasis on long-term portfolio performance is prompting commercial real estate developers to strengthen asset management capabilities beyond project delivery. Skanska USA Commercial Development has responded by adding a senior leadership position designed to improve operational performance and maximize value across its U.S. commercial development investments.
Michael Meyer has joined Skanska USA Commercial Development as vice president of asset management, a newly established position that became effective July 20. Based in Washington, D.C., Meyer reports to Chief Financial Officer Pablo Rabagliati.
Meyer will oversee asset performance and reporting across Skanska USA Commercial Development's portfolio while supporting initiatives related to customer experience, operational performance, sustainability, investor reporting and asset readiness for future disposition.
The position will also work with regional business units and corporate teams responsible for finance, marketing and sustainability to establish consistent asset management practices throughout the portfolio. Responsibilities include improving reporting and benchmarking, supporting leasing initiatives, evaluating portfolio performance and identifying opportunities to increase long-term asset value.
Before joining Skanska, Meyer served as vice president of asset management at Redbrick LMD, where he managed a diversified portfolio of multifamily and commercial properties in the Washington metropolitan area.
His background also includes leadership positions overseeing asset management and investment activities at MRP Real Estate, Middleburg Real Estate Partners and Gladstone Commercial. Throughout those roles, he developed experience in portfolio optimization, investor reporting and joint venture governance.
As commercial real estate portfolios become larger and more complex, developers are placing greater emphasis on post-construction asset performance alongside development and delivery. Dedicated asset management leadership can help improve operational efficiency, strengthen reporting for investors, support leasing performance and align sustainability initiatives with long-term ownership objectives. For construction owners and developers, stronger portfolio oversight can enhance the value and competitiveness of commercial assets throughout their operating lifecycle.
