NEW YORK — Skanska USA, a global leader in construction and development, has unveiled Skanska Advanced Technology (SAT), a new specialized operating unit dedicated to high-tech and semiconductor manufacturing.
As part of Skanska’s USA Building division, SAT aims to enhance the company’s capabilities in delivering complex, cutting-edge facilities for the rapidly expanding high-tech sector. Katie Coulson, a seasoned industry leader, will take the helm as Executive Vice President and General Manager, bringing her extensive experience and expertise in advanced manufacturing to the forefront.

"Establishing SAT is an important strategic move for our business, and Katie is the ideal leader for our SAT team," said Clay Haden, President & CEO of Skanska USA Building. "Katie is an action-oriented leader with a record of success developing and leading high-performing, inclusive teams. Under her leadership, we are well positioned to better serve our key customers and seize emerging opportunities in the high-tech/chips manufacturing sector."
Strategic Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
With projects spanning Oregon, Arizona, and California, SAT will leverage Skanska’s regional operating units to provide state-of-the-art solutions in semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing. Currently, the unit employs more than 180 professionals and is actively involved in multiple large-scale projects across the U.S.
Skanska’s experience in the advanced technology sector is well established, with over $23 billion in projects completed or under construction in this space. The formation of SAT marks a significant step toward solidifying Skanska’s position as a market leader in an industry experiencing unprecedented growth due to the rising demand for semiconductor production and technological advancements.
Katie Coulson: A Proven Leader in High-Tech Construction
Katie Coulson, who will oversee all aspects of SAT’s operations, has more than 25 years of experience in high-tech manufacturing and a strong track record in operational and account management.
Coulson’s career with Skanska began in 1999, and she has played a pivotal role in managing key customer relationships within the company’s advanced technology sector. Before assuming her new position, she served as Senior Vice President – Account Manager, where she was responsible for overseeing Skanska’s largest high-tech manufacturing client.
In her expanded leadership role, Coulson will report to Jim Link, Regional Executive Officer, Skanska USA Building.
Meeting the Needs of a Rapidly Evolving Industry
With the semiconductor industry receiving significant federal and private sector investments, Skanska is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for advanced manufacturing facilities. The CHIPS and Science Act, passed in 2022, has accelerated efforts to bring semiconductor production back to the U.S., fueling a surge in high-tech construction projects.
“Activity in high-tech manufacturing is booming, and SAT will allow us to deliver even more value to our clients,” said Coulson. “By bringing together specialized expertise, innovative construction solutions, and a deep understanding of the industry, we can meet the needs of today’s most advanced manufacturers.”
A Legacy of Innovation and Growth
As one of the largest development and construction firms globally, Skanska has built a reputation for shaping the future of infrastructure and technology-driven projects. The company’s U.S. operations are headquartered in New York City, with 28 offices nationwide and a strong presence in key high-tech markets.
In 2023, Skanska USA reported $7.1 billion in construction revenue, while its development arm has invested $4.6 billion in commercial and multi-family projects.
Looking Ahead
With the launch of Skanska Advanced Technology, the company is doubling down on its commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing clients. As demand continues to rise, SAT will serve as a driving force behind the industry’s next generation of facilities, ensuring that Skanska remains at the forefront of innovation in advanced manufacturing construction.
