Thief Steals Excavator from Construction Site, Wreaks Havoc on Oregon Bank ATMs
In a highly unusual burglary, someone stole an excavator from a construction site in Clackamas, Oregon, and drove it to a nearby U.S. Bank where it was used to destroy two ATMs and damage the building.

Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 4:50 a.m. on June 23 following a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, they discovered the heavy equipment still running near the bank’s ATM drive-thru.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, “Someone stole the equipment, drove it from a nearby construction site and used it to destroy two ATM housings, causing damage to the U.S. Bank building in the process.”
Authorities confirmed that cash was taken from at least one drive-thru ATM during the incident. No suspects were present when deputies arrived, and no arrests have been made so far.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is now asking for the public’s help. “We’re seeking information that could help identify whoever is responsible,” deputies said.
Anyone with tips is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office tip line at 503-723-4949 or submit an online report using reference Case #25-013120.
The incident occurred in Clackamas, a suburb located roughly 10 miles southeast of Portland. Officials have not released any surveillance images or estimated the total dollar amount of damages or cash stolen.
The bold heist has raised security concerns among local contractors and financial institutions alike, especially given the use of construction machinery in the commission of the crime. No injuries were reported.
