Water and wastewater utilities face complex decisions involving capital costs, construction schedules, operational requirements and delivery risks. Engineering and infrastructure services firm STV has appointed Daniel Augusti as vice president and national collaborative delivery leader to guide its design-build and progressive design-build strategies for water infrastructure projects.

Design-Build Strategy Targets Project Coordination

Based in STV's water team, Augusti will lead national efforts to coordinate owners, designers and contractors through alternative project delivery methods. His responsibilities include helping utilities identify risks earlier, align project teams and improve cost and schedule certainty on major capital programmes.

Design-build places design and construction responsibilities within a coordinated delivery arrangement, while progressive design-build typically brings the owner and delivery team together earlier to develop project scope, cost and schedule as design advances.

Augusti's experience across owner, engineering and contractor organisations is expected to inform decisions involving risk allocation, project performance and coordination among stakeholders.

Major Water Infrastructure Projects Shape Leadership Experience

Augusti has worked on alternative delivery programmes across the country, including rehabilitation of DC Water's Potomac Interceptor and the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District's Large Diameter Sewer Repair project.

His previous project experience also includes Atlanta's $160 million Custer Avenue Multi-Benefit Project and DC Water's Clean Rivers Program. These assignments span sewer rehabilitation and broader water infrastructure programmes.

Augusti holds a master's degree in business administration from St. Michael's College and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Norwich University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Florida and holds a Design-Build Professional credential from the Design-Build Institute of America.

Water Infrastructure Delivery and Capital Programme Management

STV provides engineering, planning and programme management services for water transmission, wastewater treatment, water resources and resource recovery projects. Its portfolio includes the Second Atoka Pipeline in Oklahoma, the Vista Ridge Regional Supply Project in Texas, the Owasso Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oklahoma, the Walnut Hill Pump Station in Dallas and the Red Hook Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility in New York City.

The appointment adds national leadership focused on collaborative delivery within STV's water practice. For utilities and construction partners, delivery strategy can influence how design decisions, construction sequencing, cost controls and project risks are managed throughout major infrastructure programmes.

Augusti's role centres on applying alternative delivery approaches to complex water projects, with an emphasis on early coordination among the organisations responsible for planning, designing and constructing essential infrastructure.
