Airports and aviation facilities require specialized construction expertise, regulatory coordination and project delivery in active operating environments. Sundt Construction has expanded its Southwest aviation team with the addition of Vincent Castillo as project director and Nina Fernandez as business development representative.
Castillo will provide project leadership and strategic direction for Sundt's aviation work across the region. His 25-year career includes positions ranging from project engineering and superintendent roles to project management and executive leadership.
He has overseen more than $400 million in construction work and holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from San Diego State University. His professional credentials include CM LEAN, LEED AP and CPC designations.
Castillo participates in several aviation and construction industry organizations, including the Arizona Airports Association, Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, National Business Aviation Association and American Institute of Constructors.
Fernandez will oversee business development activities for Sundt's Southwest Building Group, with an emphasis on expanding aviation opportunities throughout the region.
Her responsibilities include developing relationships with industry partners, design firms, airports and local communities while supporting project pursuits. Fernandez previously worked in business development and project management within the commercial real estate and construction sectors.
She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management. Her industry involvement includes the Urban Land Institute, Arizona Airports Association, Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
Sundt's aviation work spans major international airports and regional airfields. The company's teams work within FAA and TSA requirements and use self-perform capabilities on projects that must be delivered while facilities remain operational.
The appointments add project delivery and business development experience to Sundt's aviation operation as the company pursues work across the Southwest. For airport owners and aviation developers, specialized leadership can support coordination among design teams, operators, regulatory agencies and construction teams on complex projects.
The expanded team also positions Sundt to pursue additional aviation opportunities while leveraging its experience with active facilities and self-perform construction capabilities.
