Swinerton Expands Presence with New Maui Office

Caroline Raffetto

Swinerton, a leading general contractor headquartered in Concord, California, has opened a new office in Maui, marking a significant expansion of its operations in Hawaii. This move comes as part of the company’s strategic initiative to solidify its position as the fifth-largest contractor in the state. The new office will complement Swinerton’s existing Honolulu office and provide enhanced support for its operations across various sectors, including aviation, hospitality, industrial, retail, and luxury retail markets.

The 6,250-square-foot Maui office is designed with innovation in mind, featuring a mass timber mezzanine created by Timberlab, a mass timber provider owned by Swinerton. The mezzanine serves as the centerpiece of the office, which houses a team of 12 employees. This office space not only reflects Swinerton’s commitment to sustainable building practices but also emphasizes the company's investment in local infrastructure to better serve its clients.

Aaron Yamasaki, Swinerton’s Vice President and Hawaii Division Manager, emphasized the company’s commitment to the local community: “Our goal is to continue positively contributing to the Maui community, and by establishing a permanent Maui office, we can better support our clients and our team in delivering general contracting and construction services within the aviation, hospitality, industrial, retail, and luxury retail markets.”

Swinerton has been a long-time player in the Hawaiian market, having operated in Maui for over six decades. The company’s new office will allow for more efficient delivery of services and expansion of its project portfolio, which includes high-profile projects like the renovation of the Royal Lahaina Hotel and upgrades at Kahului Airport. Other notable projects include luxury retail improvements, such as the development of Bucherer at Whaler’s Village in Lahaina, Hawaii.

In addition to the Maui office, Swinerton has been rapidly growing its presence in other regions. Just four months ago, the company broke ground on a new office in Austin, Texas, which will also incorporate mass timber components, showcasing Swinerton’s innovative approach to construction and sustainable design.

As one of the most prominent contractors in Hawaii, Swinerton’s expansion in Maui will undoubtedly help the company meet the increasing demand for construction services in the state while providing continued support to local communities and clients. With a proven track record of successful projects, the new office will position Swinerton for continued growth and success in Hawaii’s competitive construction market.
