Technip Energies Wins Billion-Euro EPC Contract for Commonwealth LNG Export Terminal in Louisiana

Technip Energies has been awarded a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by Commonwealth LNG for the development of a 9.5 million tons per annum (Mtpa) liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The award represents a significant milestone for the France-based energy technology firm and underscores its leadership in delivering innovative modular LNG solutions.

The project will feature six identical liquefaction trains based on Technip Energies’ SnapLNG by T.EN™ design—a modular, scalable approach intended to accelerate construction timelines and improve cost efficiencies. This strategy enables the replication of a single design across all trains, improving predictability and reducing construction risks.

Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, emphasized the project’s strategic importance. “We are honored to be awarded the Commonwealth LNG project which is a testament to our world leading expertise in modularized LNG solutions," he said. "This project is pivotal in enhancing global energy security by ensuring a reliable and efficient supply of LNG. We are eager to leverage our world-class experience in LNG projects associated with our SnapLNG by T.EN™ innovative modular and productized approach to contribute to the success of this critical energy initiative.”

This contract follows the successful completion of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase by Technip Energies. However, the contract is still contingent on a final investment decision (FID) by Commonwealth LNG. As such, it will not be included in Technip Energies’ backlog until the FID is confirmed or a full notice to proceed is issued.

Technip Energies classifies a “major” contract as one exceeding €1 billion in value. The award strengthens the company’s footprint in the LNG space, where it has already delivered over 20% of the world’s operational LNG capacity.

The Louisiana-based LNG export terminal will serve as a crucial component in the U.S.’s role as a top global LNG supplier, especially in light of heightened energy demand from Europe and Asia. Commonwealth LNG’s planned facility will enhance the export infrastructure on the Gulf Coast and align with growing calls for energy diversification and security.

Commonwealth LNG has committed to building the project with a focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and cost competitiveness. The company’s leadership has emphasized a streamlined permitting and development process aimed at bringing the facility online efficiently.

Technip Energies, headquartered in Paris and listed on Euronext, continues to expand its project portfolio, with revenues of €6.9 billion reported in 2024. The firm employs more than 17,000 people across 34 countries and maintains a leadership role in sectors including hydrogen, ethylene, sustainable chemistry, and carbon capture.

Once the FID is reached, construction could begin swiftly, thanks in part to the project’s modular nature, which allows for parallel fabrication and on-site assembly—an approach increasingly favored for its ability to reduce labor intensity and timeline uncertainty.
