Tillotson Avenue Work Ongoing Through October, Repaving Set for 2026

MUNCIE, Ind. — Construction on Tillotson Avenue in Muncie is set to continue through late October as Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) resumes major infrastructure upgrades in the area, the utility company announced in a press release this week.

The project, which involves repairs and service upgrades along the roadway, began earlier this year and will see crews return to the site in early June to complete the remaining phases of the work. I&M officials are urging motorists to plan ahead and remain cautious, as the project will bring ongoing traffic control changes and delays through the fall.

“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get things back to normal,” said Rob Keisling, External Affairs Manager for I&M. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation while our crews make repairs and finish upgrades to provide better service for you.”

The work is part of a larger investment by I&M in the region’s electric grid, aimed at improving system reliability and minimizing future outages for residents and businesses. While construction is set to conclude by late October, a full restoration of the roadway will not occur until next year.

I&M is collaborating closely with the City of Muncie on road-restoration planning. The city has confirmed that a complete resurfacing of the affected section of Tillotson Avenue is scheduled for 2026. Officials say the delay is intended to allow for utility work to fully settle and avoid premature pavement deterioration.

Residents and business owners along the route have been advised to monitor local updates and prepare for intermittent lane closures. Emergency services and school transportation will be accommodated throughout the duration of the project.

The ongoing work follows a series of infrastructure projects across East Central Indiana, where aging electric and water systems are undergoing phased modernizations. Muncie officials have indicated that similar collaborative projects between the city and utility companies may be announced in the coming months.

The Daily News will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
