MARSHALL, Texas – Texas State Technical College (TSTC) is introducing a new Building Construction Technology program at its Marshall campus, designed to equip students with high-demand skills for the construction industry.
With construction booming across Texas, the program is expected to fill a critical workforce gap by training professionals in modern building techniques, project management, and hands-on skills.
“All of the indicators tell us that offering students the chance to study Building Construction Technology is a terrific opportunity for us to continue to answer that call,” said TSTC’s Marshall campus provost, Bart Day.
The Building Construction Technology program is not only launching in Marshall but is also set to expand to additional TSTC campuses across Texas, including:
“We are starting with a certificate program to establish a foothold, but the goal is to turn it into an associate degree program,” said Rick Vargas, Director of Alignment for Building Construction Technology at TSTC.
This expansion will allow more students across Texas to gain hands-on training and industry certifications that can lead to high-paying jobs in commercial and residential construction.
The program is open to students of all experience levels, from those new to construction to professionals looking to enhance their skills.
“I know there’s a lot of construction in East Texas, so it will be beneficial for people that don’t have experience in it and want to get into the field,” said Diana Balderas, a student at TSTC’s Waco campus.
The curriculum will focus on carpentry, blueprint reading, project planning, safety regulations, and emerging building technologies, preparing students for a wide range of careers in the industry.
The Texas construction industry continues to expand, driven by urban development, infrastructure projects, and housing demand. Employers are actively seeking skilled tradespeople to meet growing needs.
TSTC’s Building Construction Technology program will play a key role in closing the skills gap, providing students with industry-relevant training and career placement opportunities.
