Turner Reaches Major Milestone in Michie Stadium Renovation with Topping Out of East Stands
Turner Construction Company has celebrated the successful topping out of the new east stands at Michie Stadium, a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the historic football venue at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

The topping out ceremony—a time-honored tradition in the construction industry that marks the placement of the final steel beam—reflects not just the structural progress of the stadium renovation, but also the symbolic advancement of a project deeply rooted in tradition, excellence, and service.
Built in 1924 and nestled into the Hudson Highlands, Michie Stadium is widely regarded as one of the most scenic stadiums in college football. It has served as the battlefield for the Army Black Knights for more than a century and has hosted countless games that honor the legacy and spirit of the U.S. Military Academy.
Modernizing History While Preserving Legacy
Turner Construction, one of the largest construction firms in the country, has been entrusted with bringing modern amenities and long-term durability to a stadium revered for its historical and emotional significance. The east stands project involves completely replacing aging infrastructure with modern seating, improved access, expanded concourses, and better sightlines—all while maintaining the stadium’s iconic look and feel.
“We are proud to reach this key milestone at such a storied venue,” said Luigi Morfea, Construction Executive at Turner Construction Company. “Our team has developed and implemented a comprehensive logistics plan to ensure that Michie Stadium remains operational for football and lacrosse throughout construction. It’s a privilege to help preserve the legacy of this stadium while delivering modern amenities for future generations of fans.”
The new design offers a 360-degree viewing experience, providing fans unobstructed views of the field and the stunning Hudson River Valley beyond. It also includes enhanced ADA accessibility, upgraded press and media facilities, and safer, more efficient ingress and egress for large game-day crowds.

Community, Cadets, and Country
The project is not just about bricks and steel—it’s about creating a place that honors the cadets who train at West Point, the alumni who return to cheer on the Black Knights, and the service members whose lives are celebrated through college football’s pageantry and tradition.
Michie Stadium plays a vital role in the Academy’s culture, serving as a site for not only football games but also commencement ceremonies, military parades, and community celebrations. By renovating the east stands, the Academy and Turner Construction are ensuring that this cherished space can continue to serve future generations in multiple capacities.
Looking Toward 2026 Completion
Despite the scale and complexity of the renovation, construction remains on track for a 2026 completion date, ensuring the east stands will be fully operational for that year’s football season. Turner’s use of advanced project management tools, lean construction practices, and close coordination with military stakeholders has kept the project aligned with key milestones.
The project also reflects a broader commitment by the U.S. Military Academy to modernize its facilities to support student-athlete development, military readiness, and institutional excellence.
As work continues, the team is focused not just on finishing construction, but on delivering a venue worthy of the values and achievements of the men and women of West Point.
