Officials in Grayson County, Texas say the closures began Sunday evening and are part of an infrastructure improvement project designed to maintain and upgrade key transportation corridors in the region.

The changes, announced by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), will include overnight lane closures, detours and traffic shifts expected to continue through March 15.

Northbound Lanes Temporarily Closed

Construction activity began Sunday night with the closure of northbound lanes along US 75 between Travis Street and South Loy Lake Road.

The shutdown started at 6 p.m., affecting all entrance and exit ramps within that section of the highway. Traffic disruptions were expected overnight before the roadway reopened early Monday morning.

According to the schedule released by TxDOT, the northbound lanes were set to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, March 9, allowing normal traffic flow to resume during daytime commuting hours.

The temporary closure marks the beginning of a series of planned traffic changes along the highway over the next week.

Planned Detours and Traffic Shifts Through March 15

Drivers traveling along US 75 should expect additional overnight closures and detours as construction crews continue work in the area.

TxDOT outlined several upcoming changes designed to shift traffic while crews complete road improvements and prepare the next phases of construction.

Key scheduled closures include:

March 8 (6 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
Northbound US 75 closed from Travis Street to Loy Lake Road in Sherman, including all entrance and exit ramps.

March 9 (7 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
Northbound US 75 closed from US 82 to Loy Lake Road in Denison as traffic patterns shift again.

March 12 (8 p.m.)
Southbound traffic will be detoured to the frontage road from Exit 63 to Travis Street.

March 15 (6 p.m.)
Southbound traffic will be diverted to frontage roads from Crawford Street to Travis Street.

These changes are intended to allow crews to work safely while maintaining traffic flow in the busy highway corridor.

Highway Construction Aims to Improve Traffic Flow

US 75 serves as a major transportation route in North Texas, connecting communities and supporting both daily commuting and regional freight movement.

Infrastructure upgrades on highways like US 75 are essential for accommodating growing traffic demand and maintaining safe road conditions across rapidly developing areas of the state.

Transportation officials say drivers should expect intermittent delays, detours and shifting traffic patterns during the construction period.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, watch for construction signs and consider alternate routes when possible.

Drivers Advised to Use Caution in Work Zones

Roadwork zones often require reduced speeds and heightened awareness from drivers to ensure the safety of both construction crews and motorists.

TxDOT recommends that drivers traveling through the area:

  • Follow posted detour signs
  • Reduce speed in work zones
  • Allow extra travel time during overnight construction
  • Stay alert for changing traffic patterns

While the temporary closures may cause short-term inconvenience, officials say the improvements will help maintain a reliable highway system and support long-term transportation needs in the region.
