Authorities in Crawford County, Wisconsin, are actively investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred in a construction zone and left an enclosed trailer significantly damaged. The incident happened in the Township of Eastman and may provide further evidence of rising concerns around work zone safety.
According to an official release from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place on State Highway 35, north of Frenchman’s Landing, sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The damaged trailer was found within the active construction zone early Wednesday morning, leading authorities to believe the suspect vehicle struck the trailer overnight and fled the scene. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Photos released by the Sheriff's Office show multiple chrome vehicle parts scattered around the crash site, indicating the suspect’s vehicle likely sustained significant front-end damage.
“The suspect’s vehicle is believed to have heavy front-end damage as multiple chrome vehicle parts were found left on the scene,” the Sheriff’s Office confirmed in its report.
The sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle involved. Authorities are encouraging local auto repair shops and salvage yards to report any vehicles brought in with recent front-end damage that could be consistent with a crash.
While no further information is currently available, the incident highlights the dangers workers and drivers face in construction zones, especially during off-hours when visibility is limited and monitoring may be reduced.
Residents with tips or who may have been in the area during the time of the incident are encouraged to contact the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
