Little Goose Creek Bridge Work to Resume July 7 on Idaho’s SH-55
Construction is set to resume on the Little Goose Creek Bridge along State Highway 55 in Idaho starting July 7, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The project is located between New Meadows and McCall, and drivers can expect reduced speed limits, temporary traffic signals, and intermittent flagging throughout the remainder of construction.

“This project has been extended due to weather, road conditions, and unexpected contractor delays,” said Associate Engineer B.J. Johnson. “We are working with the contractor to ensure the work is completed as quickly and safely as possible, presumably this fall. We appreciate the community’s patience during this process.”
The $7 million project originally began in June 2024 and will replace the aging bridge, enhance safety, and improve mobility on this heavily used corridor. It also includes intersection upgrades at Last Chance Road and shoulder widening to increase visibility and access.
Last Chance Road and the adjacent campground remain closed and are expected to reopen in late 2025, according to ITD.
State Highway 55 is a critical north-south route through Idaho, serving as a key corridor for commercial traffic, tourism, and recreational travel. The Little Goose Creek Bridge project is part of a larger effort to improve infrastructure reliability across rural areas in the state.
Once complete, the new bridge will feature updated guardrails, improved load capacity, and a modernized road surface, helping reduce wear and tear for both everyday drivers and freight haulers.
The project’s phased approach, including alternating one-lane traffic with temporary signals, allows continued use of the route during peak summer travel while ensuring worker safety.
ITD officials emphasized that they are coordinating closely with local communities and emergency services to minimize disruption and maintain access along the corridor.
Travelers are encouraged to check 511.idaho.gov for real-time traffic updates and construction alerts throughout the summer and fall seasons.
