The Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in east Austin is set for a transformative $1 billion upgrade, marking a pivotal investment by Austin Water.

Approved by the Austin City Council, this project will modernize the 47-year-old facility with new construction, environmental improvements, and flood resilience measures.

Scheduled to commence in 2025, the upgrades will be carried out while the plant remains operational, utilizing a construction manager at risk approach to ensure efficiency and quality.

The expansion aims to enhance treatment capabilities, reduce environmental impact on the Colorado River, and introduce advanced disinfection technologies, reflecting Austin's commitment to sustainable water management and community safety.
