Balfour Beatty Awarded $168 Million for Student Housing Projects in Florida
Balfour Beatty has been selected to undertake three significant student housing projects in Southern and Central Florida, with a total contract value of approximately $168 million (£129 million).
The projects encompass the Rollins College East End Neighborhood in Winter Park, Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) 2026 Campus Student Housing project in Boca Raton, and a dining renovation at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.
Rollins College East End Neighborhood - Winter Park, Florida
The $54 million (£41.5 million) Rollins College project will replace the existing 80-bed Holt Hall, Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex, and Copeland Stadium. This initiative aims to boost student housing capacity in line with the college's new three-year on-campus living requirement. The contract was awarded in August 2024, with site work already underway and completion expected by Fall 2026.
FAU 2026 Campus Student Housing Project - Boca Raton, Florida
Valued at around $90 million (£69 million), the new residence hall will accommodate 670 beds for non-first-year students on FAU's Boca Raton Campus. The estimated 203,000 gross-square-foot facility will feature a combination of 3- and 4-bedroom semi-suite units, each with a kitchenette and designed for single occupancy. Amenities will include study spaces, kitchen facilities, laundry units, and flexible gathering areas, while the site design will improve connectivity to the campus core with shaded outdoor spaces. The contract was awarded this month, with an anticipated completion date in Summer 2026.
Nova Southeastern University Dining Renovation – Fort Lauderdale, Florida
The $23.9 million (£18.4 million) renovation project for the Health Professions Division’s (HPD) Terry Dining Hall includes partial demolition of existing spaces, updates to the dining area and lobby, and the addition of new dining and kitchen facilities. The project will also involve utility relocation, service yard expansion, and the installation of a new Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Terry Building. This contract was awarded in September 2024, with completion expected in 2026.
John Harris, Balfour Beatty Executive Vice President in Florida, stated: "We are thrilled to be chosen for these transformative projects that will enhance the student experience across three prestigious institutions in Florida. These contracts not only represent our commitment to providing essential campus improvements for our clients but also underscore Balfour Beatty’s project diversification and growth strategy in the Southeast’s higher education market sector."
