Catamount Introduces ArchType™ to Streamline Build-to-Rent Development

Catamount Constructors, Inc., a 100% employee-owned ENR Top 400 Contractor, has launched ArchType™, a ready-to-build solution aimed at helping developers navigate rising costs, compressed timelines, and strong demand across the build-to-rent (BTR) market.

The company said the new offering is designed as a customizable, pre-priced kit-of-plans that draws on decades of construction experience and real-world lessons learned from multifamily and BTR developments. Catamount positioned ArchType™ as a way to reduce uncertainty and accelerate the path from concept through construction.

Catamount’s BTR and multifamily team brings combined expertise in design, development, and construction delivery. The company said ArchType™ blends the advantages of a design-build approach with proven workflows and layouts informed by renter insights and field-tested performance.

“With decades of experience managing complex, high-stakes developments, I understand the challenges developers face, uncertainty, rising costs, and tight timelines,” said Jared Ford, President with Catamount. “ArchType™ was designed to solve those problems.”

A “Kit-of-Plans” Approach Built for Speed, Cost Control and Predictability

Catamount said ArchType™ is intended to eliminate common bottlenecks that slow down delivery, especially when projects require coordination between multiple design teams, general contractors, and consultants before construction can even begin.

Developed in partnership with Dwell Design Studio, ArchType™ aims to streamline the BTR process by reducing handoffs and simplifying decision-making. Catamount said its pre-vetted plans are informed by field experience and designed to move faster without sacrificing quality, giving developers a clearer path to execution.

Bernida Chapman, Vice President with Catamount, emphasized that the goal is not simply providing templates but delivering a flexible solution that adapts to different BTR needs.

“I’ve seen firsthand what works in BTR. ArchType™ isn’t just a set of pre-priced plans; it’s a smart, adaptable solution that helps developers streamline costs and execute with confidence.”

Partnership with Dwell Design Studio Supports Real-World Buildability

Catamount said the ArchType™ concept is strengthened by its collaboration with Dwell Design Studio, a nationally recognized architecture firm specializing in rental housing. The partnership is intended to support designs that reflect renter expectations while remaining efficient and practical for builders to construct.

Dwell’s kit-of-plans model focuses on livability and market-aware layouts, aligning with Catamount’s goal of providing developers with repeatable plans that can perform across different projects while helping control costs and schedules.

Meeting BTR Demand with Repeatable Delivery Tools

As BTR and multifamily markets continue to evolve, developers are increasingly under pressure to deliver communities faster while managing budget volatility and shifting labor and material costs. Catamount said ArchType™ is aimed at responding to those conditions by providing predictability through pre-priced planning and construction-informed design.

The company framed the new solution as a way for BTR developers to accelerate delivery timelines, reduce risk in early project phases, and move into construction with stronger cost and schedule confidence.
