Hemma Concrete Expands YARDZ Into Company-Wide Asset Management System to Boost Efficiency

ATLANTA — Hemma Concrete, a rapidly growing contractor with three active divisions, has expanded its use of the YARDZ platform, transforming it from an equipment tracking tool into a comprehensive, company-wide asset management system aimed at improving efficiency, accountability and project planning.

Originally implemented to monitor heavy equipment across multiple job sites, the platform quickly demonstrated broader capabilities. This prompted Hemma to extend its use to additional asset categories, including vehicles, tools and formwork with a combined value between $2.5 million and $3 million.

The contractor currently supports high-profile projects such as the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, the Avalon luxury development in Alpharetta, Georgia, and the Troubadour Golf and Field Club in Nashville, Tennessee. Managing both owned and rented equipment across these job sites had previously created inefficiencies, duplication and an increased risk of loss or theft.

Expanded Platform Improves Visibility and Integration

“When we reached out to YARDZ, it wasn’t about tool management, it was equipment management,” said Eric Blair, who oversees logistics for Hemma Concrete. “But more than that, we specifically needed a platform that could communicate directly with our existing equipment fleet.”

Company leaders selected YARDZ for its ability to integrate with Hemma’s existing project management and accounting systems, as well as its capability to communicate directly with GPS-enabled equipment without requiring additional software.

Following implementation across Hemma Concrete and its Hemma Elevations division, leadership recognized the platform’s potential to serve as a centralized hub for managing all company assets.

“YARDZ has become a resource management tool for all our assets, not just equipment,” said Ben Kiker, executive vice president at Hemma. “Once we realized it could handle tools, maintenance, inspections, and more, it opened up an entirely new level of functionality.”

Data-Driven Insights Enhance Planning and Accountability

Hemma is now utilizing a broad range of YARDZ features, including preventative maintenance scheduling with real-time vendor updates, digital inspections integrated with project systems, and tool tracking for assets valued at $250 or more. Additional capabilities include geofencing alerts for theft prevention and fleet monitoring to track driver behavior and fuel usage.

These tools have already produced tangible results. In one instance, the company recovered a stolen piece of equipment within five minutes using geofencing alerts.

Beyond operational improvements, the platform is enabling more informed decision-making in areas such as estimating, staffing and long-term planning.

“Because we know exactly which tools are in circulation, our estimates and budgets are more accurate,” said Kiker. “It’s all about data. With the kind of information we now have, we can make smarter decisions across the board.”

The system has also strengthened accountability among employees, as tracked and assigned tools encourage better care and reduce losses.

Looking ahead, Hemma Concrete is exploring advanced applications of the platform, including predictive analytics and deeper integrations, positioning YARDZ as a key driver of future growth.

Founded in 2018, YARDZ provides software solutions for tracking both rental and owned equipment, helping construction firms reduce duplicate rentals, streamline inventory management and improve asset utilization across projects.
