Matthew Gerstung Joins Schimenti as Director of Corporate Safety to Lead Firmwide Safety Programs

Matthew Gerstung, a recognized safety leader in the construction industry, has joined Schimenti as Director of Corporate Safety. Bringing over 17 years of experience, Matthew will lead the safety team, enforcing industry-wide safety standards and policies to ensure the well-being of all workers onsite. His addition to Schimenti’s Leadership Team emphasizes the company’s uncompromising dedication to a “Think Safe. Work Safe. Live Safe.” culture of safety.

Matthew is committed to proactively planning, directing, and implementing Schimenti’s corporate safety program to create a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment while mitigating risks across the organization. Additionally, he will oversee the management of safety and risk associated with projects and company operations, develop strategy, lead all aspects of safety management systems, and provide departmental leadership.

Prior to joining Schimenti, Matthew served as the Business Unit Safety Manager at Gilbane, where he played a central role in enhancing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with various regulatory bodies, including the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), Department of Transportation (DOT), NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), Metro Transit Authority (MTA), Fire Department of New York City (FDNY), and OSHA.

Matthew holds notable certifications, including CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), CRIS (Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist), and LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional).
