NEW YORK — JRM Construction Management has completed a transformative renovation of the ninth-floor biochemistry laboratories at the New York City campus of the New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech), the company announced. The overhaul modernizes essential scientific infrastructure and supports the university’s mission to advance research and STEM education.
The project, completed in collaboration with FCA Architects, Meyers+ Engineers, and Nycom Laboratory + Interior Construction, provides New York Tech students and faculty with a fully updated laboratory environment designed to meet the rigorous demands of contemporary scientific research and instruction.

Renovations included new lab casework, updated ceilings, doors, and resilient flooring. Additionally, JRM executed a full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) upgrade, which introduced a range of safety and performance enhancements. These included the installation of high-efficiency air conditioning and sprinkler systems, modern plumbing fixtures, and key safety features such as emergency showers and eye wash stations. A new vacuum pump system and compressed air infrastructure, as well as modern fume hoods, further elevate the lab’s operational capacity.
“We’re proud to help New York Tech create an environment that supports cutting-edge research and learning,” said Joseph P. Romano, CEO of JRM Construction Management. “By integrating strategic construction solutions and high-quality craftsmanship, this project will have a lasting impact on the institution’s commitment to excellence in science and technology.”
With these improvements, the university's biochemistry department now operates in a setting aligned with current scientific standards for higher education research and lab safety. The labs are expected to foster enhanced collaboration and discovery in areas such as molecular biology, chemical analysis, and environmental science.
The project also reinforces JRM Construction’s ongoing support of educational institutions and research organizations across the country. By prioritizing innovation, quality, and reliability in construction, JRM plays a pivotal role in developing infrastructure that empowers academic communities.
