McShane-Ashlaur Complete Construction of Westhaven Park Station Mixed-Income Apartments on Chicago’s Near West Side
Chicago, Illinois — July 22, 2025 — McShane Construction Company and joint venture partner Ashlaur Construction have announced the completion of Westhaven Park Station, a new 12-story, 96-unit mixed-income apartment residence that marks a major milestone in the revitalization of Chicago’s Near West Side.
Developed by repeat clients Brinshore Development and The Michaels Organization, the project delivers on the promise to fully replace affordable housing units lost during the demolition of the former Henry Horner Homes complex. McShane previously built a 113-unit condominium building as part of Westhaven Park’s first phase back in 2006, continuing its long-term role in reshaping the neighborhood’s housing landscape.
“The completion of Westhaven Park Station represents a significant milestone in the transformation of the Henry Horner Homes site,” said David Rintz, Regional Vice President – Multi-Family at McShane. “We’re proud to have partnered with Brinshore Development and The Michaels Organization once again to deliver high-quality affordable housing that supports the future of the Near West Side.”
The new precast concrete tower spans 121,800 square feet, offering a range of modern one- and two-bedroom units designed with open floorplans, designer cabinetry, solid surface countertops, Energy Star appliances, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and in-unit washers and dryers. Approximately 66% of the apartments are reserved for affordable housing, while the remaining 34% are market-rate units — a mix aimed at sustaining neighborhood diversity and promoting long-term economic growth.
Beyond residential spaces, Westhaven Park Station includes three ground-floor retail units to help activate the streetscape and support local businesses. Residents will also benefit from thoughtfully designed community amenities such as a fitness room, rooftop deck, secure on-site parking, package room, and a conference space with enclosed offices for remote work and meetings.
Positioned steps away from the new CTA Green Line station and Damen Avenue bus stop, Westhaven Park Station ensures easy access to public transit, enhancing connectivity to downtown Chicago and other parts of the city.
Chicago-based LBBA served as the project’s architect, bringing a contemporary design that complements the evolving urban fabric of the Near West Side.
