Backed by a $1 trillion state economy, the hospitality market remains one of the most diverse in the U.S., with long-term growth potential despite recent volatility, according to HVS Global Hospitality Services. Against this backdrop, R.D. Olson Construction has completed and advanced multiple projects that highlight its capabilities in large-scale, design-forward hospitality construction.
Appellation Healdsburg Showcases Complex Resort Development
One of the firm’s most notable recent projects is Appellation Healdsburg, an eight-acre, campus-style luxury resort located in Sonoma wine country. Developed as part of the Appellation brand, the property was created in collaboration with Chef Charlie Palmer, Christopher Hunsberger and Comstock Development.
The 108-room resort spans multiple buildings and includes a signature restaurant, rooftop bar, spa and a 14,398-square-foot event space. The project’s multi-structure layout required coordination across a complex site, underscoring the contractor’s ability to execute intricate hospitality builds.
Completed in just 22 months, the development reflects R.D. Olson’s focus on efficiency while maintaining high-end design and construction standards. The project also highlights a growing trend toward experiential, culinary-driven hospitality destinations in California’s wine regions.
AC Hotel Pasadena Brings Upscale Experience to Urban Market
In Southern California, R.D. Olson Construction recently completed the $60 million AC Hotel Pasadena, which opened in mid-2025. Located in the city’s Playhouse Village, the hotel is the area’s only branded property and offers a modern, upscale hospitality experience.
The 100,000-square-foot development features 194 guestrooms, a rooftop bar and lounge with mountain views, and multiple gathering spaces designed to serve both guests and the local community. The property also includes approximately 5,000 square feet of leasable retail and event space, further integrating the hotel into the surrounding neighborhood.

Built in partnership with Welcome Group Inc., the hotel is situated within walking distance of Pasadena’s dining, shopping and cultural attractions, as well as the Pasadena Convention Center. The project reflects continued demand for mixed-use hospitality developments that blend lodging with retail and entertainment offerings.
R.D. Olson Construction’s recent portfolio demonstrates its ability to navigate evolving market conditions while delivering projects that meet both operational and experiential demands. As the hospitality sector adapts to shifting traveler expectations, contractors are increasingly tasked with building spaces that prioritize flexibility, design quality and guest engagement.
With projects like Appellation Healdsburg and AC Hotel Pasadena, the firm continues to position itself as a key player in California’s hospitality construction market, contributing to the sector’s anticipated recovery and long-term growth.
