Major construction milestone demonstrates how autonomous building technology is advancing code-compliant residential development and helping establish a pathway for future 3D-printed housing projects

RIC Robotics, a leader in autonomous construction technology, and K4K Construction today announced the successful completion of printing for Sacramento’s first permitted 3D concrete-printed home, marking a significant milestone for residential construction and demonstrating how robotic building technologies are moving from pilot projects to real-world, code-compliant housing.
The 1,200-square-foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU) was printed in just 12 days, making it one of the fastest seismic complaint wall systems completed with 3D concrete-printed systems in the U.S. Developed by K4K Construction using RIC Robotics’ autonomous construction technology, the project also established the first permitting pathway for a 3D concrete-printed residence in the City of Sacramento, creating a framework that could support future residential projects utilizing the technology.

The project carries special significance for David Gonzalez and his wife, Estelle Gonzalez, who chose to build the inaugural home in their own backyard before introducing the technology to prospective homeowners. Designed as a residence for Estelle’s parents, the ADU serves not only as a family home but also as a proof of concept demonstrating that innovative construction methods can successfully meet the rigorous standards required for residential development.
To bring the project to life, K4K Construction and RIC Robotics worked closely with the City of Sacramento throughout the permitting process, helping establish a code-compliant pathway for future 3D concrete-printed residential construction. The collaboration demonstrates how builders, technology innovators and municipalities can work together to responsibly introduce new construction methods while maintaining the safety, engineering and quality standards expected of traditional residential development.
