The project will replace the airport’s existing general aviation building, which dates back to 1971, with a modern facility designed to better accommodate pilots, business travelers and other aviation customers. Airport officials say the development reflects both growing demand and a broader effort to modernize regional transportation assets.

Located in Mosinee, Wisconsin, the airport serves as a key transportation hub for central Wisconsin, supporting both commercial and private aviation activity.

Modern Design Focused on User Experience

Airport Director Brian Grefe said the new facility, while not expansive in size, will offer upgraded amenities and a more welcoming environment for travelers.

“As it comes out of the ground you'll see that it's not going to be a very big facility, but it will be a nicely done building,” Grefe said.

The project includes a redesigned terminal space featuring a large lobby and waiting area, along with passenger-focused amenities such as a snack bar, reception desk, seating areas and a fireplace. A dedicated pilot’s lounge is also planned as part of the facility.

Design work for the project was led by Woolpert Architecture, with project manager Adam Acree noting that the team aimed to create one of the top fixed-based operator (FBO) facilities in the state.

“You're going to be greeted to a very big lobby and waiting area,” Acree said. “It's going to have a snack bar, a receptionist desk, a fireplace, a seating area, and a pilot's lounge.”

Partnerships and Operational Improvements

Ovation will serve as the fixed-based operator at the airport, providing fueling and general aviation services. Company officials said the new terminal will significantly enhance their ability to serve customers.

“We really partnered with the airport on the design phase, to make sure it had the amenities that it would need to take care of services,” said Josh Harris, director at Ovation.

Airport leadership emphasized that beyond operational upgrades, the new terminal is intended to reflect the region’s identity and serve as a gateway for visitors arriving via private or charter flights.

“We wanted this building to represent central Wisconsin, and be a welcoming gateway to our community,” Grefe said.

Construction is expected to proceed in a single phase, with completion anticipated by December 2026. Once finished, the new terminal is expected to support continued growth in general aviation traffic while improving the overall customer experience.
