Coastal Construction Group has completed a major leadership transition as the Florida-based contractor positions itself for continued expansion across high-growth construction markets in the Southeast.
The company announced that longtime co-presidents Tom C. Murphy and Sean Murphy have been elevated to co-CEO roles, succeeding founder Thomas P. Murphy Jr., who will continue serving as chair of the Executive Board.

The leadership change follows more than a decade of operational oversight by the brothers and reflects a broader succession planning effort aimed at maintaining continuity as the contractor manages a multibillion-dollar project pipeline.
Coastal said it currently has approximately $7.5 billion in active work underway and a three-year pipeline exceeding $17.5 billion. The company has continued expanding operations throughout Florida, with additional growth planned in Jacksonville later this year.
For contractors operating in rapidly growing regional markets, leadership continuity has become increasingly important as firms navigate rising project complexity, labor pressures, and long-term client relationships. Family-owned construction companies in particular are placing greater emphasis on structured succession planning to preserve organizational culture while supporting future growth strategies.
Founded in South Florida, Coastal Construction has delivered large-scale hospitality, residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments throughout the state. The contractor said it has completed roughly 50 million square feet of vertical construction since its founding.
The company’s portfolio includes luxury residential towers, hotels, mixed-use developments, and private club projects across Miami, Tampa, Naples, Palm Beach, Orlando, and the Florida Keys. Coastal has also played a major role in developments tied to the Miami Design District, Miami Worldcenter, and Water Street Tampa.
The transition also reflects ongoing generational changes occurring across the construction sector as experienced founders and executives prepare younger leadership teams to manage increasingly technology-driven and financially complex project environments.
Coastal said multiple members of the Murphy family remain active within the organization, alongside a broader workforce supporting operations statewide.
