Lane Construction has secured a major role in one of Florida’s largest ongoing infrastructure programs, winning a $582 million contract to design and build a key segment of Interstate 4.

The Florida Department of Transportation named the Charlotte, North Carolina-based contractor as the preferred team for Project 2 of the Moving I-4 Forward program, according to an April 9 announcement. The initiative is part of the broader Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, the largest infrastructure effort currently underway in the state.
The project spans Polk and Orange counties and includes reconstruction and widening of a 3.1-mile stretch of I-4, from east of County Road 532 to west of World Drive in Osceola County.
Lane’s scope of work includes reconfiguring the State Road 429 interchange and adding new ramps connecting to State Road 538, also known as Poinciana Parkway.
The contractor will also construct two new express lanes in each direction, enhancing capacity along the heavily traveled corridor that runs from Tampa to Daytona Beach. Once complete, the interstate will feature four general-use lanes and two express lanes in each direction.
The improvements are designed to deliver smoother and safer traffic flow for both general-purpose and express-lane users, addressing congestion challenges in one of Florida’s busiest transportation corridors.
The Moving I-4 Forward program consists of six phases and uses a modified phased design-build delivery method. Unlike traditional design-build contracts, the approach involves selecting multiple firms to collaboratively develop cost-effective solutions based on their experience.
Lane, a subsidiary of Webuild Group, has a long-standing presence in Florida and considers the state a core market. The firm has previously completed several major interchange projects along the I-4 corridor, including work at Route 33 in Polk County and improvements at Route 535 and Sand Lake Road in Orange County, as well as the I-275 interchange in Tampa.
In addition to its I-4 portfolio, Lane was awarded a $238 million design-build contract in 2025 to improve Interstate 75 in Marion County, further strengthening its footprint in the region.
The latest award underscores the continued investment in large-scale transportation infrastructure across Florida, driven by population growth and increasing traffic demand.
As construction activity ramps up, projects like Moving I-4 Forward are expected to play a critical role in modernizing the state’s highway network and improving mobility for residents and visitors alike.
