PARADISE, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Transportation is set to begin a $3.1 million reconstruction project on M-123 in Paradise, with construction scheduled to start April 27.

The project will focus on rebuilding sections of the roadway through a combination of partial crushing and reshaping of the existing pavement, followed by asphalt repaving. Officials said the upgrades are designed to enhance durability, improve safety and support both vehicle and non-motorized traffic.
In addition to roadway improvements, the project includes the construction of wide shoulders that will serve as an off-road vehicle connector trail. The work will also incorporate upgraded stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage and roadway resilience.
A key component of the project is the addition of a paved shared-use path, funded through a Transportation Alternatives Grant. The path will be complemented by new concrete sidewalks, crosswalks and lighting to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
MDOT officials said the shared-use path is expected to increase safety for non-motorized users, particularly in an area that sees a mix of recreational and local traffic.
Construction activity will require traffic control measures throughout the project duration. Motorists should expect single-lane closures managed by temporary traffic signals and traffic regulators.
A 10-foot width restriction will also be in place during construction, which is anticipated to continue through late October.
Officials are advising drivers to plan for delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
