Shawmut Design and Construction continued its long-running support of cancer research by participating in the 2026 Pan-Mass Challenge, marking the company's 19th consecutive year in the annual fundraising event.
The construction firm's employee-owners, executives, family members and industry partners joined thousands of cyclists during the Aug. 1-2 ride across Massachusetts, contributing to fundraising efforts that benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Since first participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge, Team Shawmut has generated more than $2.3 million to support cancer research and patient care initiatives.
The 2026 team included employees from across the organization along with family members and friends. Participants completed cycling routes ranging from 25 to 177 miles, while additional supporters participated virtually from locations across the United States.
Shawmut also served as a sponsor for the event by providing the official rider socks distributed to approximately 6,500 cyclists participating in this year's fundraiser.
The fundraising campaign was supported by numerous construction industry partners and suppliers, reflecting ongoing collaboration across the sector on charitable initiatives. Team Shawmut continues to accept donations following the event as fundraising efforts remain active.
Community engagement has become an important component of many construction companies' corporate strategies, complementing project delivery with investments in health, education and local organizations. Long-term participation in charitable initiatives can strengthen relationships with employees, trade partners and communities while demonstrating an ongoing commitment beyond construction projects.
