Zachry Construction Names Travis Mross President, Expands Focus on Water Infrastructure Projects

SAN ANTONIO — Zachry Construction has appointed longtime executive Travis Mross as its new president, signaling a continued push into water infrastructure and civil construction as demand rises across the sector.

Mross, who began his career with the company as an intern in 2000, most recently served as executive vice president. His promotion reflects both his tenure at the firm and Zachry’s strategic focus on expanding its infrastructure portfolio.

The San Antonio-based contractor said in a Tuesday announcement that Mross will prioritize client service and reliable project delivery across its core business segments, including transportation, water infrastructure, underground utilities and civil sitework.

Leadership Transition and Strategic Priorities

In his new role, Mross will oversee efforts to strengthen operational consistency and drive long-term growth across the company’s expanding project pipeline. The firm emphasized that his leadership will focus on maintaining high standards of execution while scaling operations in key infrastructure markets.

“As demand for critical infrastructure continues to grow, our job is to bring consistency, discipline, and a high standard of execution to every project,” Mross said in the news release. “That focus will continue to guide how we serve clients and grow the business.”

Founded in 1924, Zachry Construction has built a reputation in heavy civil construction, particularly in underground utilities and water-related projects. The company’s leadership transition comes at a time when public and private investment in infrastructure is accelerating, particularly in water systems.

The firm also pointed to its recent acquisition of Crescent Constructors as a move that strengthens its capabilities in water infrastructure, aligning with broader market demand.

Rising Demand and Competitive Landscape

Zachry’s increased focus on water infrastructure reflects a growing trend across the construction industry, as aging systems and population growth drive demand for upgrades and new facilities.

The company faces competition from a wide range of contractors, including major players such as Jacobs and Ferrovial, which are also expanding their presence in the water infrastructure space. Engineering firms are similarly targeting the sector, with Carollo Engineers recently securing a construction management role on a water purification and reuse project in Nevada.

Federal investment is also fueling momentum. In March, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced plans to invest $889 million in water infrastructure projects across six Western states: California, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

Against this backdrop, Zachry’s leadership move positions the firm to capitalize on sustained infrastructure demand, particularly in water-related projects that are becoming increasingly critical nationwide.
